Bakari Sellers- Who Are Your People?

Meet Bakari Sellers!

Bakari Sellers is an attorney, political commentator, and politician — he also happens to have written a children’s book: Who Are Your People? - that we carry at Binya! Sellers served in the South Carolina House of Representatives for the 90th district from 2006-2014. He was the youngest African American elected official in the country at the early age of 22! Bakari Sellers is currently practicing law with Strom Law Firm, LLC in Columbia, South Carolina, a political analyst on CNN and a paid lobbyist for the government of Liberia.

Sellers earned his undergraduate degree from Morehouse College, a private all-male and historically black liberal arts college in Atlanta, Georgia, where he served as a student body president. He then earned his law degree from the University of South Carolina. Following in the footsteps of his father, Cleveland Sellers, who was a civil rights leader, Bakari continues in his ventures to progressively bring awareness to multitudes of issues ranging from education and poverty to preventing domestic violence and childhood obesity. Sellers also served on President Barack Obama’s South Carolina Steering Committee during the 2008 election. His accomplishments and undeniable ability to reach bigger audiences led to him being named on TIME magazine’s 40 under 40 in 2010, and in 2014 and 2015, “The Root 100” list of the nation’s most influential African Americans. Bakari Sellers is thought to be a rising star within the Democratic Party and a leading voice for his generation. He has served as a feature speaker for events at the National Education Association, College Democrats of America National Convention and the 2008 and 2016 Democratic National Conventions.

In Bakari Sellers’ New York Times bestseller book called, My Vanishing Country: A Memoir, he offers passionate, political and social commentary and analysis from first-hand experience, inside one of the nation’s most famous political parties. Be sure to check out “Who are Your People?”, which is a tribute to family, community, and people who make us who we are. This book is meant to answer those questions of the first time meeting someone, which often might include “who are your people,” and “Where are you from?”

Seller’s book Who are Your People? is now available here at Binya, and we are absolutely thrilled to be offering such an influential and driven individual’s book here.
