Wear a Piece of Daufuskie: Discover Pure + Light Handmade Jewelry by Cara Sorcie Crouch

There is a quiet, untouched magic to Daufuskie Island where unpaved roads wind beneath ancient live oaks and folks live or vacation slowly. For local artisan Cara Sorcie Crouch, that untamed coastal beauty isn’t just where she creates, it is the very heart and raw material of her new jewelry brand, Pure + Light.

Inspired by the coastal lifestyle and named in honor of her children, Lily and Luca (whose names symbolize purity and light), Cara’s company crafts small-batch, artisanal jewelry that gives locals and visitors a tangible connection to the Lowcountry.  We’re thrilled to be carrying several pieces at Binya Hilton Head Island!

Handcrafted from the Shores of Daufuskie

At the center of Pure + Light’s collection are locally hand-sourced oyster shells gathered directly from Daufuskie Island's pristine coastline. Cara and her family can often be spotted scouring the beaches for treasures to turn to jewelry.

Instead of mass-produced accessories, every single piece carries a story and is handmade.  Shells are hand-selected along the shoreline for their unique curves, textures, and luster. Cara carefully shapes, layers, and finishes each detail, transforming raw shells into wearable art. From elegant oyster shell pendants to delicate coastal accents, each design reflects the salty air, natural light, and relaxed elegance of island living.

The Front Porch Store: A Classic Daufuskie Island Shopping Experience

Visiting Pure + Light is an experience on Daufuskie. Tucked away on scenic Carvin Road, just a short 5-minute stroll from Freeport Marina, you’ll find Pure + Light’s Front Porch Store. Embracing the trusting, community-first spirit of Daufuskie Island, the shop operates on an honor system from dawn to dusk daily. Visitors arriving by golf cart or on foot can walk right up to the porch, browse the stocked displays of giftable treasures at their leisure, and pay via Venmo, Cash App, or Zelle with no shopping attendant or clerk on-site to take payment. Guests are expected to pay the price displayed and leave with items fully paid for.  And that’s what they have been doing!

Catch Pure + Light Around the Lowcountry

If you aren't hopping on the ferry to Daufuskie this weekend, you can frequently find Cara and her handmade creations popping up across Hilton Head Island at local makers' markets, including events at Branches and The Greenery, and now at Binya Hilton Head.  Cara and Pure +Light were just at the Hilton Head Island Italian Festival.
